The annual Highfield versus Vospers Ryder Cup Competition was held on 19th April at Dibden Golf Centre
The 27 hole competition was organised by Phil & Gere who sorted the weather, the teams, the food, the complicated rules, the excellent days entertainment, the prizes and the fun but forgot about the result.
Vospers, who have held the trophy since March 2012, needed 11.5 points to retain the trophy and unfortunately for Highfiled they did slightly better and were victors with 14.5 points to 8.5 points.
Congratulations to Dean and his team of merry men & woman who thoroughly deserved their victory (Although Malc thought he was robbed!)
It's Vospers turn to organise next years event and all Highfield need to do before then is find some golfers |

It would appear from my visits to the venues that a very enjoyable evening was had by all. Plenty of banter and amazement sometimes of getting the answer right. Full marks to Dave Slowgrove, no one queried any of the answers in the setting of his quiz questions. They are good enough to go national !!
Thank you to the Quizmasters and the use of the Club’s facilities as venues.
We need more clubs to take part so please spread the word.

I was a bit disappointed with the teams that failed to turn up, but more with the ones who could not be bothered to inform that they would not be there.!!!! We were waiting !!!!!! but not for long as it does say a prompt start at 2000.
A very good evening was had by all taking part and the questions where as testing as usual, THANKs to Dave Slowgrove. Thank you to the quizmasters and Venues.
The number of teams seems to get less every year, we need to wind it up so could you all help promote it more ?? or do we need a change??
It is a good evening OUT. TONY BROWN 02/03/13 |

Once again our home ground has gained top marks from the opposition in County 3. Since winning the Trophy 3 years ago Malcolm has maintained a consistent level and outscored an ex County Ground and a host of Southern League grounds along the way. If not for the fact that the Ground award given each year is for most improved, Malcolm would need a new cabinet to house his wares.
Marks are given for Bounce, Pace, outfield, assistance to seam and spin and overall support to a game of cricket. The marks are given out of 50.

HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE TOP 20
2012
Because of the rain affected season the format has been changed from averages to most runs scored and most wickets taken.
COUNTY 3
For the second time in three years none of the first team managed to make the top twenty. Phil Colmer came closest in the batting but his 255 runs was well short of the 302 needed to make 20th place. De Cani from Longparish came top with 640 runs. Phil’s 131 v Hursley was the 5th highest individual score and his partnership of 171 with Steve Taylor in the same game was the 5th highest partnership in County 3.
On the bowling front Saunders from Hythe won with 33 wickets. Matt Ashe took 15 and needed 1 more to hit the top 20.
RD2SE
The Buffs had more joy in their league and Justin Connor hit 284 to come 5th. Ayling from Peartree won with just 310 runs. Ghazan came in 13th with 188 and did the double with his 13 wickets putting him in 18th. Despite only playing half the season Nabil Ahmed took 12 to come 19th. White from Fair Oak took 29 to take first.

HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE FORMAT 2013
Next years' Saturday format has now been released and it's big changes for both our sides. After saving themselves from relegation by less than 2 points, the Firsts stay in County 3 which has now been regionalised. In fact, looking at the League maps on the Hampshire League web site, County 3 offers arguably the least travelling of all 20 divisions. Trips to Longparish and Hartley Wintney have been replaced with mere jaunts to Trojans and Sarisbury. The restructuring of County 3 has also had an effect on the lower leagues with over half the teams being promoted. The Buffs stay in Regional 2 South but face 11 teams from the wrong end of the M27. With many teams struggling to get their home ground every week it is the lower sides that invariably end up at the local Sports Centre and with most pitches being used every week it has become increasingly difficult to find venues. For this reason all leagues from Regional 2 down will now play with 17 teams so one week will become free.

This weekend sees the final Hants league matches for the Chins & Bufs. Both teams have struggled this year although the Bufs look ok to maintain their Regional Div 2 SW status. However there is a distinct chance that the Chins could be relegated for the first time in their Saturday league history!!!!!
Lets meet in the Old Fat Cat around 9pm and then onto the Kerala for a curry. Knowing us this may change so keep checking back!

"We were magnificent in defeat"
The inaugural Highfield versus Vospers Golf Competition was held on 23/3/12 at Chilworth Golf Club. Blistering March temperatures greeted both teams and a pre-match comment from the Highfield Captain stating 'the only thing that scared him about the opposition was their dress sense' came back to bite him in the arse when his own Uday and Roy turned up in clothing fit for the Antarctic!
The day started with with the morning fourballs on the front 9 and foursomes on back 9. With 12 points up for grabs the match could not have been closer at lunch with both teams claiming 6 points each and it was left for the 12 singles matches to decide the outcome of the competition. The afternoon sun took it's toll on some players following a few lunch time pints but Vospers held their nerve to claim the Trophy with a 14 - 10 victory.
Congratulations to Vospers CC and a big thank you to Ollie Knight for organising a great days entertainment |

HCL FORMAT 2012
The provisional league format for 2012 is out and there is a lot of change for both sides. As per usual there are 7 different sides in County 3 but the Buffalos trips to the Forest have been swapped for games in the opposite direction as they move to SE2.
COUNTY 3
Holybourne (Alton) come up as C4N champions, with an impressive 11-1 record and runners up Denplan Mansbridge, (9-2) join them. Last time we played Mansbridge they played at Hedge End but they have now moved to North Walls in Winchester. Coming up from C4S are Paultons (10-1) and Bransgore (12-2), when the two met last season they tied and Paultons won the league by just 5 points. Coming down from County 2 are Flamingo, Hursley Park and Hythe and Dibden. All 3 teams had 3-11 records but Flamingo conceded twice and rumours persist that they won't be around next season.
SE2
It's any ones guess what we'll be facing in SE2 but the East side is generally considered to be slightly weaker than the West. Waterlooville (10-3) were 3 rd last year and just missed promotion by 3 points, Bedhampton (10-3) were just 6 points off going up. Peartree will be looking for their 3 rd promotion on the trot after winning SE3 with a 12-2 record. There could be few short trips for us with Peartree (Turnpike Rec), Bursledon(Donkey Farm), Southampton Community (Millbrook Rec), Ordnance Survey (Wide Lane) all within the City boundary. Sarisbury and Fair Oak aren't too far away either where we could be facing our old team mate Dave Slowgrove.

The Cat's got the cream
Casper the Cat saw off all rival cricket pundits to win the HCC ICC WCP Competition with an impressive 94 points. He beat his closest rivel Ben 'Rocketman' Schwarz by an impressive 13 points and wins a healthy pot of cash for his troubles. Rumour has it he will be using some of his winnings towards the production the HCC yearbook! but if he had any sense he'll be straight round the Cat light district to spend his hard earned winnings unless of course his owners have deprived him of his crown jewels.
Bottom of the pile was Keith Ridley who only managed a poultry 20 points. Perhaps he should try picking his own predictions next time!! Gere's still laughing although he does feel a little guilty.
A big thankyou to Steve for a good quiz which went to the wire and for Neil keeping us up to date with the scores throughout the tournament.

Srini second, Gerald, an anomaly
Well it's taken some time but the Hampshire league computer problems have been sorted, and as we hoped, Srini has come second to Avi in the league averages for SW3. Considering he started the season batting at number 9, he managed to hit over 350 runs. This is a tremendous achievement, and the first time the club have had a 1-2 in their history. Avi averaged over 83, Srini over 70 and the next best well behind on 60. Just to cap things, Jessi's 235 runs at 26.11 was good enough to get him into 20 th position. Despite moving to Hardmoor we also managed to get two bowlers in the top twenty. Ben Schwarz came in at 17 th with 21 wickets at 18.24 and Avi did the double for the second year running, coming in at 20 th with 22 wickets at 20.36.
Unfortunately the firsts didn't manage anyone in the top 20 of County 3, the first time since 2002 that this has happened. However because Gerald didn't appear in the top 20 no one noticed that his 31 wickets equalled the divisions best and the entitlement of an award and dinner. Gerald, however like any good bowler always checks his stats and a quick e-mail later confirms he is a joint winner and a trophy is being hastily engraved. He will now join Avi and 6 chums at the Rose Bowl where they will both be presented with their trophies.

LEAGUE FORMAT 2011
The provisional Hampshire league set up for 2011 has been announced and confirms in writing for the first time that the Buffalos have been promoted, and sit just 3 leagues below the Chinchillas.
As with the nature of County 3 there are 8 different fixtures for the firsts to play. Down come Purbrook, Pylewell Park and Ropley from County 2 and up come Hayling Island , Liphook, Rowner, Winterslow and Rotherwick.
The Buffalos have remained in the South West region, therefore avoiding multiple trips to Portsmouth . Totton, Bransgore and Langley Manor have all come up as well but all the relegated teams from Divisions 1 South and North have gone into other leagues.

BUFFALOS ARE PROMOTED
The Buffalos needed maximum points in their final game and a few results to go their way in order to gain promotion. They achieved the first part of this with a fine maximum points win over Pyewell Park at Hardmoor. Then news filtered through that Lymingtons game had been rained off and Exbury had slumped to defeat at Bransgore gaining only 6 points. This meant that the Bufs leap frogged both of these teams to clinch the fourth promotion spot.
A fantastic achievement from the boys and thoroughly deserved. WELL DONE LADS, click here for match report
